This is the first ad I wrote. Ever.

A couple of days into my first (and for 16 years, only) agency, and the brief to launch Top Gear Magazine landed. I badgered the Founder/ECD until he relented and gave me a shot.

The whole idea is a massive piss-take (obvs). And with each round that it was presented up the chain, I was told it would die. But it didn’t. I guess someone at ACP didn’t take themselves too seriously. And this is the result.

The Top Gear Magazine launch was the most successful in ACP’s history. It was nominated for Ad of the Year (lost out to Herringbone: Henri’s Hands). I got to go to some fun awards nights and a (small) pay rise and thought advertising was pretty neat.

The best part about making it was Audi Australia gave us the new R8 for the weekend.
