The Opera House had a perception problem. Too many Sydneysiders saw is as a place for turtleneck wearing classical music types and were missing out on the eclectic mix of shows and performances. They didn’t want to shift the needle, they wanted to be bold. The solution lay basking in the sun on the waters edge; the famous Opera House Seal. With no social media accounts but a huge social presence she became the new face and voice of the SOH. The Opera House Seal Chat Bot.
A traditional mass media launch let Sydney know the seal has a new job. The sassy gif-loving mammal is their personal guide to all things cool and kooky under the sails and she’s ready to chat on Facebook Messenger.
The tone of the seal was critical. She needed the wit of Sarah Silverman, the cool of Dylan Alcott, whilst being as helpful as Siri. Thousands of seal puns were written and hundreds of gifs were made to populate a complex conversation matrix.
The campaign gained traction quickly with thousands of peeps chatting with the seal on a daily basis. Our mammalian cultural curator guided them to hundreds of different events and promptly went back to sleep on the steps of The House.
